InRent

Frequently asked questions

What is InRent?

InRent is a student accommodation platform in Botswana. It connects students with verified landlords offering rooms, flats and houses near universities and colleges, with in-app messaging, viewing bookings, applications and documented rental agreements.

Which areas does InRent cover?

InRent primarily covers Gaborone and surrounding student areas, including Block 10, the UB area, Gaborone West, Extension, Tlokweng, and is expanding to Francistown, Maun and other university towns in Botswana.

Is InRent free for students?

Yes. Browsing, saving listings, messaging landlords, booking viewings and applying are free. Students pay a one-time placement fee of P100–P400 only once a rental agreement is concluded.

What is the InRent placement fee?

A one-time fee shown alongside rent and deposit when your rental agreement is concluded: P100 for an immediate move-in (within 7 days of applying), P200 for a 2-week gap between applying and moving in, or P400 for a gap of 4 weeks or longer.

How much does it cost landlords to list a property?

Listing is free with no cap on the number of properties. InRent only earns a platform fee on rent facilitated through InRent once an agreement is concluded: 5% for tenant management only, or 7% if InRent also onboards the tenant.

How does InRent verify landlords?

Landlords provide a valid Omang (national ID) or passport, proof of ownership or authorization to rent, and contact details. Verified landlords display a badge on their profile, and landlords with consistent negative feedback are removed.

What should I do if a landlord asks for payment before a viewing?

Never pay before viewing a property in person — it is a common scam. Verified InRent landlords will not ask for payment before a viewing. Report it to [email protected].

How do I apply for a property?

Find a listing on the InRent marketplace, message the landlord or book a viewing, then submit an application. The landlord reviews it in their dashboard and you confirm lease terms and move-in details in the app.

How much deposit do Botswana landlords usually require?

Most landlords in Botswana ask for 1–2 months’ rent as a security deposit plus the first month’s rent upfront. Always get a receipt and a written lease that states the deposit terms.

How do I contact InRent support?

Email [email protected] or message InRent on WhatsApp at +267 77 379 041. Support typically responds within 24 hours.
